  1. Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. “In 1936 nine working-class American boys burst from their small towns into the international limelight, unexpectedly wiping the smile off Adolph Hitler’s face by beating his vaunted German team to capture the Olympic gold medal."  
  2. Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim. Moments after Lisbeth is born, she's taken from her mother and handed over to Mattie, a wetnurse, in order to care for her.
  3. Waiting for White Horses by Nathan Jorgenson. (more) Excellent. Set in the tall pines of northern Minnesota's spectacular lake country, is a story of trusted friendship, loss, and redemption, love, and rediscovery. (Lynn)
  4. Marley & Me by John Grogan. Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans. (Lynn)
  5. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. A poignant tale of two motherless boys growing up in Kabul.
  6. Pawleys Island by Dorothea Benton Frank (and any other of her books). Bestseller Frank's fifth Lowcountry Tale is a lively story about friendship and family, Southern-style. (Lynn)
  7. Isle of Palmsby Dorothea Benton Frank "Honey, you think you've got a dysfunctional family. Anna Lutz Abbot wants you to sit yourself down with a glass of sweet tea and hear all about why her family takes the pound cake." (Lynn)
  8. Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch by Haywood Smith - It's laugh-aloud funny, outrageous ,deeply touching, but also uplifting. (Lynn)
  9. The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom -
    I didn't think this lived up to it's hype, I was a bit disappointed.
  10. The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks - Is there really a guy out there that would do this? I would rate it OK.
  11. Riding the Bus with my Sister by Rachel Simon - I thought this was an excellent book, a real learning process. It is a true life journey as the cover states.
  12. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay - a mesmerizing story in which a tragic past unfolds, the present is torn apart, and the future is irrevocably altered.
  1. Black or White - When his wife dies in a car crash, Elliott Anderson (Kevin Costner) fields another blow: the realization that he must raise his biracial granddaughter, Eloise. (Kevin Costner does a wonderful job.
  2. McFarland USA - Jim White moves his family after losing his last job as a football coach. He sees that some of the students are worth starting a cross country team
  3. Bucket List - The story follows two terminally ill men (Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman) on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they die. (Lynn)
  4. Mona Lisa Smile - Julia Roberts. Easy going, but so fifties! We've come along way, baby!-Lynn
  5. Miracle - relive the US Olympics Gold metal in Hockey. - Joan
  6. Seabiscuit
    A bit confusing to start with but an excellent film, loved it.
  7. Brother Where Art Thou
    This was off beat but a great film. It's by the guys who did "Fargo" so I expect it to a bit crazy.
